Host
Marek Kowalczyk
Marek Kowalczyk, co-founder of Lapazul, is an avid fisherman. From a young age, he was called to the sea. He completed his mandatory service to his country of origin, Poland, in the navy and then proceeded to work as a commercial fisherman. Once in Canada, while building and running his successful business, he always made time for fishing. Currently, spending more time in Costa Rica, fishing once again took center stage. He wishes other fishermen to experience fishing in Costa Rica and offers two fishing packages a year.
Itinerary
This was the best vacation I’ve had in decades. Lapazul is located within easy distance of lots of things to see and do – Manuel Antonio National Park, horseback riding, ziplining, beaches, waterfalls and more. But when we were at the hotel, it felt like the rest of the world had disappeared. The surroundings – forest, grounds, pool, wildlife – are so beautiful and relaxing. Our room was great, and we met interesting guests from around the world. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful; they all felt more like friends by the end of our stay. Patricia and Marek have created a wonderful oasis at Lapazul.
Wow, what can I say? Lapazul and Marek did indeed present a fishing retreat of a lifetime! Three days of tremendous fishing action. First day inshore, catching crevalle jack and red snapper near Quepos. Second day 55 plus miles offshore catching tuna in a sea swarming with thousands of dolphins. One day off to recuperate from all the prior days’ action where we visited breathtaking waterfalls. On the third day, we were treated to a day of non-stop action near Dominical using the Panga boat, the favourite of the Tico locals.
Lapazul has hand picked the best boats and guides and it felt like we had been fishing with them for ever. Every boat captain was skilled in their craft and found us the fish to keep us hopping. Although partial to the fishing off Dominical where we were able to experience old style vs new, I will remember the entire trip for the remainder of my life.
Top this off with the unbelievable accommodations at the Lapazul resort where the food and stay were first class. Patricia and Marek hit it out of the park. Esteban was great in helping us out with the language and sites, Deiby’s chef skills were amazing, and all the staff treated us like family.
Cannot wait to go back!
